The first day of NaNoWriMo 2023 is over, and the first 3,000 words are written.
I’m working on getting to know my first POV character.
Achethe (Ey-kth) is the security officer and investigator for the merchant ship Genesis. She’s in Southampton searching for a missing crewman, but is wary of the city. After all, what sort of crazy people would knowingly live so close to the massive Castle Labyrinth that fills all the land inside the old city walls? There’s far too much free magic here for her taste, but she’s got a job to do.
If you don’t know, NaNoWriMo is “National Novel Writing Month”. It should really be InNoWriMo these days, as it really is an international affair, but I guess they already have the web domain. Can’t blame them for sticking with the name.
The idea is that you try to write 50,000 words of a new novel in the month of November. That means 1,667 words per day on average. Some days that’ll be easy, other days I’ll be lucky to write 10.
